OCD Therapy for Adults in Sandy, Utah

When OCD takes up time and energy everyday decisions, relationships, and responsibilities can become difficult to navigate. Therapy offers a place to understand these patterns and identify steps toward a life less organized around doubt.

I’m Shilea Cooper, CMHC. I work with adults navigating OCD. At Willow Brook Counseling Center I offer in person appointments in Sandy and online therapy throughout Utah.

More Room For The Life You Want

OCD looks different from person to person. Your concerns may involve relationships, safety, contamination, religious beliefs, morality, or a persistent need to feel certain.

Compulsions can include visible behaviors, such as checking or repeating actions. It can also include internal patterns like reviewing memories, mentally checking your intentions, or trying to prove that a thought isn’t true.

In our work together we look at your specific experience: what triggers distress, how you respond, and what these patterns are costing you.

Support for Your Experience of OCD

I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help you notice thoughts without treating each one as a question that requires an answer. We explore what matters to you and how you can move toward it while making room for discomfort.

I also incorporate parts-informed work to explore the parts of you that criticize, seek certainty, or feel responsible for preventing mistakes. This work supports self understanding while remaining attentive to reassurance seeking and compulsive patterns.

We’ll discuss the role of these approaches in your care and whether additional OCD-specific treatment or a referral would be beneficial.

My Approach

Your experience extends beyond OCD. You may also be navigating relationship challenges, anxiety, grief, or difficult past experiences.

When appropriate we can discuss EMDR or Lifespan Integration for accompanying trauma related concerns. We’ll distinguish those goals from our work on obsessions and compulsions so that each concern receives appropriate attention.

Looking at the Whole Person

In our first session we’ll explore your symptoms, their impact on daily life, and any previous treatment. You’ll have space to ask questions about my approach and share what you hope to gain from therapy.

Together we’ll consider whether my services fit your needs and develop a plan for moving forward.
